Romulan Government gives Federation,
Klingons Six Months before Defeat

March 31, 2374
San Francisco, Earth: An anonymous source from the
embassy of the Romulan Star Empire here in San
Francisco confirmed the existence of a report detailing
the Romulan military’s expectations on the survival of
the United Federation of Planets and the Klingon
Empire.

The report, obtained by Starfleet Intelligence two weeks
ago, predicts the complete collapse of the UFP and a
likely scenario of a cease fire with the Klingon Empire in
exchange for key worlds in Klingon space along the
Federation border.  “Laughable!” quoted Klingon
Ambassador Chu’Khan when asked if he had seen the
report.  “The Empire will never surrender and never
abandon our brothers and sisters here in the
Federation.”  He went on to say, “This is a glorious war
which will yield a glorious victory when we win.”

Starfleet Intelligence had less of a reaction.  The very
existence of the report was only confirmed a few days
ago.  They have yet to quote on the report.  Retired
Admiral Joanna Fontaine, the former Director of Starfleet
Strategic Affairs, read the report an interesting way.  “It
is not at all surprising that the Romulans allowed the
report to leak.  In fact, I would be shocked to find out if
the report were not planted.”  She went on to say, “My
guess is that it is a subtle way of getting the Federation
to end the war and seek terms while there is still a
Federation.”

But not everyone is convinced.  Former Romulan Sub-
Commander and Tal-Shiar operative R’Nel, living in
seclusion on Vulcan since his defection in 2361,
commented, “I doubt the ‘intension’ of the report was to
help save us.”  When asked about possible motivations
surrounding the report’s existence and leak, the former
Star Empire spy simply answered, “I believe that, either
under pressure from the Dominion or perhaps willingly,
the report was generated by the Tal Shiar and meant to
serve as a blow to Federation morale.”
