Operation: Tightrope a Failure, though Not a Complete
Failure
April 4, 2374
USS Sovereign: Operation: Tightrope, the first offensive action plan devised
by Command Authority has been met with mixed results, at best, according to
unconfirmed sources within Starfleet Command.
The worst results were the outcome at the Battle in the Tyra system where
the Federation seventh fleet engaged the Jem’Hadar. Of the 112 ships of the
seventh fleet, only 14 returned. Vice Admiral Reginald Strawberry was killed
in action and the flagship did not return from the battle. Other losses included
a major defeat at the Ferrer colony inside Cardassian space, causing the loss
of 166 Federation starships from the Federation 1st and 2nd fleets, and 188
Klingon warships from the Klingon 2nd and 3rd Fleets. 32 starships from the
Federation 6th, 8th and 9th Fleets were lost at the battle of the Galdor system.
However, the Federation 10th Fleet succeeded in utterly destroying the
shipyards at Galor Prime and the 6th, 8th and 9th fleets destroyed the
dylithium mining operations in the Galdor system.
“Two-thirds of our objectives were achieved but with heavy losses,” Admiral
Hathaway reported from onboard the heavily damaged USS Sovereign. “The
overall objective of the operation was to slow the Dominion advance and we
have achieved that for the short term.”
In the battle of the Ferrer colony, the flagship of the second fleet, the USS
Andromeda, was lost and Admiral T’Lara, the Fleet Commander, sustained
injuries. Command Authority is seeking a replacement for the Admiral,
though it is unclear if Fleets will begin to be merged with other fleets.
