UNITED FEDERATION BUREAU
The United Federation Bureau (UFB) is a private, yet non-profit, news agency
within the United Federation of Planets. The UFB maintains zero advertising
and commercial-free broadcasting of news, talk, commentary and
entertainment on a variety of subjects from politics, current events, sports
and other content from around the Federation. The UFB maintains its
independence by not accepting funds from advertisers, accepting donations
from citizens in the private sector.
The UFB works by simulcast, via subspace, broadcast by UFB affiliates on
member worlds and colonies all over the Federation. However, the UFB has a
small force of reporters in the field, though most of its reporting is done by
paid subscriptions to syndicated journalists in the private sector.
The UFB came into creation from the split-up of the United Federation of
Planets Press and Information department in 2301. The UFB was formed
using Federation assets and chartered into the private sector as a
not-for-profit private entity. Its first CEO was Timothy Yale, appointed to the
Board of Directors in 2302. UFB is headquartered on Trill in the Yale Building
in the Trill capital built in 2360.
